Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic, autoimmune, inflammatory disease that affects more than 2 million people in the US. Currently used disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) often fail to provide significant improvements for many patients and are typically associated with considerable toxicity. However, driven by recent advances in our understanding of the role of B cells and T cells in the pathophysiology of RA, a number of new selective immunotherapies are currently in clinical development. RAoutlook.org is a free educational Web site designed to provide rheumatologists and rheumatology nurses with the latest information about emerging selective biologic therapies used for the treatment of patients with RA.
